Alexandria’s Cleopatra-Themed Festival Faces Backlash on Social Media
In an attempt boost Egypt’s tourism, the governorate of Alexandria organized a mini Cleopatra-themed festival. People dressed up as Pharaohs and roamed the streets of Alexandria.
The celebrations started from Qaytbay Citadel and went all the way to Alexandra Dive. Queen Cleopatra went on a boat trip, afterwards, to hand over the key of Alexandria to the governor, Mohamed Sultan.
The festival caught the attention of thousands of people but was also followed by hate on social media, with many people commenting on the lack of creativity using harsh words.
According to Masrawy, the girl who posed as Cleopatra was Natalie Mansour, a 19-year old AUC student.
