Al-Ahram and Al-Watan Newspapers Publish News That Didn’t Even Happen
Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, declared he is in control of the country early Saturday as loyal military and police forces fought to squash a coup attempt during a night of explosions, air battles and gunfire that left dozens dead. While the world woke up to the news of the Turkish coup ending, Egypt on the other hand woke up to the opposite news. Yes, two of the country’s biggest newspapers, Al-Ahram and Al-Watan, have published on their very front pages that the coup was actually successful and Erdogan is no more.
We’re not quite sure if the writers at both news publications slept before the big news, or didn’t do their homework, or whatever reason that led them to this travesty, but we find it unacceptable. We’re also sensing a pattern among Egyptians news publications, just last week Al Masry Al Youm published a sexist caricature and El Shorouk News used the n-word on a front page headline. Begad ba2a, can we stop embarrassing ourselves ya gama3a? Khalas kefaya.
WE SAID THIS: Begad kefaya ba2a!
