16 Year-Old Egyptian Forward Kareem Ahmed Joins Liverpool

Liverpool have welcomed their class of 2023/24 with 12 new contracts for academy players, including a scholarship for Egyptian forward Kareem Ahmed, who made his Liverpool FC U18s debut as an U16 player in 2022-23.

Kareem Ahmed attended the academy at age six and has already made his mark when he doubled his side’s lead in his FA Youth Cup debut last season, and then scored in a mini-derby against city rivals Everton during his U18 Premier League debut.

Ahmed will be joined by defenders Carter Pinnington, Luca Furnell-Gill and Lucas Pitt, as well as midfielders Kieran Morrison and Fola Onanuga. The young squad travelled to SuperCupNI, the former Milk Cup, in Northern Ireland, where they tied against Valencia 1-1 on Monday, and are expected to play against Man United (July 26) and Hertha Berlin (July 28).

Every year, Liverpool finalize a new intake of first-year scholars, as youngsters step up from the under-16s to the exposure of under-18s football. The U18 began their pre-season with two victories at the AXA Training Centre in Liverpool. Ahmed will be a first-year scholar with the U18s in 2023-24. No pressure on Ahmed given his young age but there’s no doubt the Liverpool fans will be hoping they have another Mohammed Salah, who signed with Liverpool at age 25 for a club-record £36.9 million fee at the time.
