For the Record: Here Comes the Pinkprint
- Nicki Minaj‘s new album The Pinkprint drops tomorrow, and there’s a lot to be excited about. This weekend, she released the official video for new single “Only”, and this time she strays away from the controversial Nazi imagery of its lyric video, and has instead transformed into a dominatrix, ironically rapping about who she hasn’t slept with. Here she is with Drake, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown:
- The album also includes guest appearances by Meek Mill, Jeremih, Jessie Ware and, best of all, Beyoncé, who features on the quote-worthy “Feeling Myself”:
- And Minaj is teaming up with Ariana Grande once more on brand new track “Get on Your Knees”, which is weirdly tame and melodic, especially taking into consideration the subject matter. The two divas had previously collaborated this year on Jessie J‘s “Bang Bang”.
- Sam Smith has a new song and for once it won’t have you reaching for the box of tissues. He’s even lightened up in the accompanying video – here he is with a posse of tuxedo-clad dudes strolling around NYC and generally having a good ol’ time in the brand new “Like I Can” video:
- YouTube has announced the list of the most viewed music videos of 2014, and this year, eight of the top 10 spots were scooped up by women, as opposed to last year’s six. Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” leads with over 715 million views, and Shakira makes the list twice, at number three with “Can’t Remember to Forget You” and at number four with World Cup anthem “La La La”. The list also includes Iggy Azalea, Sia, Meghan Trainor and Taylor Swift.
- It’s been two years since we heard that D’Angelo‘s new album was 99% done, and it looks like we’re finally about to hear it at last… as soon as this week, even. The album, titled Black Messiah, is the follow-up to 2000’s Voodoo, and has taken ten years to write and record. Rumor has it the listening session is scheduled for today, so stay tuned for more info and hopefully some new tracks soon.
