From Spider-Man school bags and lunch boxes to stickers somehow covering every inch of a kid’s wardrobe, the friendly neighbourhood superhero has long had a place in Egyptian childhood. But, as Egypt tends to do with anything it truly embraces, Spider-Man didn’t stay exactly the same for long.
He got Egyptianized.
Before Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into cinemas on July 30, here’s a look at some of the funniest and most iconic times Egypt put its own spin on the web-slinger.
1. When Spider-Man Became “Ezbidder”
Forget Peter Parker. Egyptian sellers gave us Ezbidder.
In one viral video, sellers promoted Spider-Man-inspired hoodies complete with web designs—but the marketing didn’t stop at the clothes. They created an entire song around the character, including the unforgettable line: “W Amalna Espiderman.”
Because apparently, in Egypt, you don’t just sell a Spider-Man hoodie. You give Spider-Man a new name, a theme song and a full advertising campaign.
The Marvel marketing team could never.

2. “Spider-Man Kharab El Donya Ya Ged’an”
And just when we thought the Ezbidder era had reached its peak, the sellers returned with another Spider-Man anthem.
This time, it was “Spider-Man Kharab El Donya Ya Ged’an”—because the superhero hadn’t simply become popular. He had apparently taken over the entire world.
Some superheroes save cities. Egyptian Spider-Man sells hoodies and drops hit songs.
Different responsibilities.

3. When El Ragol El Enab Took Spider-Man Down
Spider-Man may have super strength, spider-sense and the ability to swing between buildings, but none of that prepared him for El Ragol El Enab.
In El Ragol El Enab, the Egyptian superhero goes head-to-head with Spider-Man in a boxing competition—and, in a moment that deserves to be included in every Marvel timeline, El Ragol El Enab takes him down.
Yes, Egypt’s very own grape-powered hero defeated Spider-Man and brought him straight to the ground.
The multiverse is officially getting out of hand.
4. When Spider-Man Moved to Cairo
Long before the latest Spider-Man film, photographer Hossam Atef, Antikka Photography, imagined what would happen if Spider-Man actually lived in Egypt.
The answer? He would probably be just as overwhelmed as the rest of us.
The photo series showed Spider-Man navigating everyday life in Cairo, from riding public transport and doing laundry to praying inside a mosque. The project used the superhero in humorous, ordinary situations to reflect the challenges of daily life in the city—and the idea that Egyptians are superheroes for managing it all.
Because fighting villains is one thing, but surviving Cairo traffic, crowded transport and the general unpredictability of everyday life? That requires a completely different kind of superpower.
5. Spider-Man, but Make It Shisha on a Rooftop
The same photo series also gave us one of the most iconic versions of Spider-Man imaginable: sitting on a Cairo rooftop with a shisha.
No skyscrapers. No dramatic web-swinging. No Avengers emergency.
Just Spider-Man taking a break, enjoying the rooftop view and living his best Egyptian life. The image became one of the standout moments from the series, which reimagined the superhero as someone trying to navigate Cairo’s everyday realities.
At that point, he wasn’t even the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man anymore.

Spider-Man may have started as a superhero from Queens, but Egypt has given him an entirely new identity.
Here, he can become Ezbidder, headline a hoodie-selling song, lose a boxing match to El Ragol El Enab, pray at a mosque and end the day smoking shisha on a rooftop.
And with Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving in cinemas on July 30, one thing is clear: Egypt has been putting its own spin on Spider-Man long before the multiverse made it cool.
With great power comes great responsibility.
