Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, presented the awards while praising the crew for their actions and sense of responsibility.

During a ceremony in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, Sheikh Mohamed praised the crew members for their swift, decisive actions that helped save lives on board. The leaders also stressed that protecting human life and ensuring passenger safety remain among the UAE’s highest priorities. The crew members thanked the President and expressed pride in receiving the honour.
What Happened on flydubai Flight FZ1073?
flydubai Flight FZ1073 was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv when a serious incident unfolded on board. According to UAE prosecutors, the aircraft’s co-pilot attempted to seize control of the passenger jet and crash it into Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
The incident reportedly caused the aircraft to plunge around 17,000 feet in less than a minute, putting everyone on board at risk.
How the Crew and Passengers Responded
After Captain Smit Machchhar managed to open the cockpit door, crew members and passengers intervened to restrain the suspect and help the injured captain. Their actions played a crucial role in responding to the emergency and protecting those on board.
An investigation into the incident found that the co-pilot, who was Omani, had planned an attack intended to cause mass casualties at the Israeli airport.
