Homes With No One To Defend: Two Stories From Abandoned Homes In Gaza

Day 97 of the genocide in the Gaza Strip sees the ongoing displacement and forced migrations of hundreds of thousands of Gaza civilians, who are now squeezed in the South region all the way toward the Rafah border.

Meanwhile, their homes are left abandoned with no one to defend. The sacredness of their homes is either left demolished by Israeli missiles or invaded by IDF soldiers.

We’ll discuss two scenarios, not knowing which is more heartbreaking than the other. The first is a before-and-after video of a finely furnished home in Gaza that has been completely demolished. The home, which was once a spacious apartment furnished from top to bottom with expensive modern items, became featureless.

In another video, IDF soldiers, who are fighting in the Gaza Strip, took over a home that belongs to a Palestinian family whose whereabouts remain unknown. The soldiers are seen cooking food and enjoying themselves in the different rooms of the house. They’re having a break from the war in a place that doesn’t identify with their presence.

The two scenarios are merely a drop in the ocean when compared to plenty of others happening in Gaza, yet they tell a great deal about the ongoing colonization of these people who remain helpless while seeing their homes taken away.
