6 Oct Brdg 14X14,5

By now, you’ve probably seen 7Up’s hashtag #OriginalSpotting #‏إعملها_بطريقتك‬ – which encourages people to “do it your way”. It’s part of their Original Spotting campaign, which encourages creativity, being different and positivity.

Original Spotting seeks to change people’s perspective, inspiring us to see the extraordinary in ordinary things and have a unique and creative standpoint on life, no matter how others see it.

Keeping in mind how people love to experiment with fashion, style and creative ideas, 7Up has released six limited edition vintage cans in celebration of their 85th birthday and as part of the Original Spotting campaign.

The funky retro designs hasthe collector in us scheming to find them all. Each of the cans captures the spirit and soul of a different decade in history and in the history of 7Up, PepsiCo’s second most popular soft drink.

We think this is a brilliant way to celebrate the brand’s success over time. With these unique and nostalgic designs, everyone will be searching for them to make a complete set.

The cans remind us not only of the aesthetics of the era but also of the particular slang from that decade, take a look below:

1930s – “Swell!”

This was the era of “swell” (codeword for “great”) times and the soft drink company’s original green glass bottles, pictured on the can with its earliest logo.

1950s – “Cool!”

The 1950s was when the word “cool” first became popular, and that’s what this design exudes, with 7Up’s slogan of the time “Fresh Up”.

1960s – “Dude!”

“Dude” was used as slang for a “guy” (“That dude is crazy!”) or as an exclamation (“Dude! You’re crazy.”). 7Up’s ’60s can evokes this bold casualness with its slogan “Drink Un Anytime”. In this period, 7Up was calling itself the “uncola”.

1970s – “Groovy!”

This was the decade of “flower power”, “free love” and “groovy” music. We love the bright pastels of 7Up’s 1970s can, which captures the hippie decade perfectly.

1980s – “Rad!”

7Up’s 1980s can is nothing short of “rad” (short for “radical”). It reminds us of those classic video games we all miss and love that feature colorful yet pixelated graphics.

1990s – “Da Bomb!”

Remember when everything was “da bomb”? Like beloved cartoon character “Fido Dido”, whose motto is “Fido is for Fido, Fido is against no one.” He appeared in several of 7Up’s commercials at the time.
