Egypt’s Aswan to Host Yet Another Solar Park, Putting the City’s Eternal Sunshine to Good Use!

On Thursday, the 13th of September, the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority signed a 20 million Euro deal with Spanish energy company TSK Grupo to build a 26-Megawatt solar park in Kom Ombo, Aswan, as reported by MENA.
The project, along with the Benben Solar Park built near the southern city of Aswan, is expected to serve Egypt’s long-term goal to produce 20 percent of its energy through renewable sources by 2022, and 37 percent by 2035, with funding from the French Agency for Development with a soft loan of 40 million euros. It’s also estimated to serve around 350,000 Egyptians and provide eco-friendly and cost-efficient power.
“The plant will be built over an area of 500,000 square meters. It is expected to produce 53,000 MW annually, equivalent to 12,000 tonnes of fuel”, said Mohamed al-Khayat, said the CEO of the New & Renewable Energy Authority, accentuating the benefits of the employment of Solar Energy in Egypt.
