Ohh, Tipsy Teapot! The place we’ve had a two-year lovey-dovey committed relationship with since it opened in Maadi. The villa (previously on Road 15) had a casual laid-back atmosphere, complete with a lush garden that’s furnished with adorably kitsch couches and chairs. But a few months ago, we were cruising around Maadi when we saw a “CLOSED” sign on Tipsy Teapot’s entrance. We automatically panicked, went home and cried while listening to Adele…

A few months after that tragic incident, we received an invite from Seandre Vetter and Alfons Alfons – the lovely couple and owners of Tipsy Teapot – inviting us to the soft opening of…well, Tipsy Teapot. We looked at the address and realized that they’ve relocated to Road 100 (the same building as Bua Khao). On the day of the opening, we didn’t know what to expect. Upon entering Tipsy Teapot’s newest form, we saw some of our favorite paintings that used to be on the old walls of Tipsy. Apart from that, nothing else resembled the old Tipsy (we’re not complaining)! Everything was just so different. The atmosphere was less laid, more classy. We could so see people bringing their boyfriends or girlfriends here for a romantic dinner, and feeling all the love that’s in the air.

Much like the design of the place, the menu itself has to also change. We were bombarded by starters that we’ve never had in their old menu. From duck prosciutto that will make you rethink every life decision you’ve made, to chimichurri shrimp on toast that got our team fighting over it, and deviled eggs with beetroot and salmon. We’re not quite fans of deviled eggs, but damn son, we couldn’t stop eating dem eggs. Hands down our favorite starter. Before our main courses arrived, we sat down with one of the owners, Vetter, and asked her what inspired her to revamp Tipsy and transform it from a laid-back venue, to a classy one. “Tipsy Teapot is my baby and always will be, no matter how it looks,” Vetter laughs while telling us. “It took me four months to create the new Tipsy menu and finally finalize it and be okay with it. We’ve also kept some of the customer-favorite items from the old menu such as the 4 Cheese Macaroni. But much like the new menu, we also have a new chef that is actually me. I’ve cooked everything tonight.”

We ordered a duck breast with cherry chipotle salsa and creamy beetroot mashed potatoes as a main, and oh my salsa! It was glorious. It was everything you could ever ask from a duck breast and more. The duck was cooked to perfection, and the beetroot mashed potatoes gave us all the feels. Unfortunately, we didn’t have any more room left in our bellies for dessert, but at least we have to pop by again to have some.
