As the FIFA World Cup 2026 gets into full swing, Qatar is helping celebrate the beautiful game far beyond the pitch. Through the Qatar, Canada, and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture initiative, a major football exhibition has opened in Mexico City, offering fans a chance to relive some of the sport’s most unforgettable moments through iconic memorabilia and historic artefacts.
Qatar Showcases Football’s Greatest Moments in Mexico City
Football fans in Mexico City can now explore more than a century of football history at Objects of Glory: Iconic Moments in the History of Football, a new exhibition at Museo Jumex running from June 10 to August 30.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Qatar’s Ambassador to Mexico, Mohammed Sultan Al-Kuwari, alongside diplomats from several countries including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Norway and Morocco, as well as Mexican officials and Eugenio Lopez, president of Fundación Jumex.
Organized by Qatar Museums, the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, and Museo Jumex, the exhibition brings together 16 remarkable objects that tell the story of football’s evolution from a local pastime into the world’s most beloved sport.

Football’s Most Iconic Artefacts on Display
At the heart of the exhibition is a collection of legendary football memorabilia that captures defining moments in the game’s history. One of the standout pieces is the jersey worn by Diego Maradona during Argentina’s famous 1986 FIFA World Cup quarter-final victory over England at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca.
Visitors can also discover historic match balls, iconic jerseys, boots, trophies, artworks and personal keepsakes spanning more than 130 years of football history.
The exhibition features artefacts connected to some of football’s biggest names, including Pelé, Maradona, Lionel Messi, David Beckham and Kylian Mbappé, highlighting the sport’s unique ability to unite people across cultures, generations and borders.

More Than Just Football
Rather than focusing solely on the matches themselves, Objects of Glory explores how football shapes culture, identity and collective memory. Through everyday objects and treasured memorabilia, the exhibition tells the stories behind the moments that have defined the sport and inspired millions of fans around the world.
The exhibition also reflects the wider goals of the Qatar, Canada and Mexico 2026 Year of Culture, which aims to strengthen connections between nations through art, heritage, sport, education and innovation.

With Mexico preparing to host matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026, Objects of Glory arrives at the perfect moment. By bringing together some of football’s most iconic artefacts, Qatar is helping fans celebrate the game’s rich history while building excitement for the tournament ahead.
For football lovers, it’s a reminder that while the World Cup lasts only a few weeks, its stories and legends live on for generations.
