Abu Dhabi’s NBA Weekend returned this October with a full-court celebration of basketball, music, and culture. Held at Manarat Al Saadiyat from October 2nd to 5th, the event — known as NBA District — ran alongside the NBA Abu Dhabi Games, which saw the New York Knicks take on the Philadelphia 76ers at Etihad Arena on Yas Island. What began as a preseason showcase has evolved into a festival that blends sport with entertainment, drawing fans from across the region.

The Superstars
This year’s edition was anchored by appearances from some of basketball’s most iconic figures. Fans got to meet Oscar Robertson, Derrick Rose, John Starks, Mark Jackson, Rudy Gay, and Michael Carter-Williams, who shared the stage for panels, photo ops, and autograph sessions. For many, it was a rare chance to interact directly with players whose names defined different eras of the game.

Beyond the Ball
Even off the court, the energy didn’t dip. The Friday Night Concert turned the District into a live music arena, with Siilawy, Tul8te, DJ Jack, Stick No Bills, and DJ D-Nice performing back-to-back sets that merged global beats with local sounds. On Sunday, things slowed down with the Abu Dhabi House Movement’s Coffee Social, a community-driven session that gave the weekend a more intimate close.

What Else?
Food stalls, pop-up shops, and even a barbershop giving out free haircuts added to the street-festival feel. Between the sneakers squeaking on the court and bass thumping from the stage, the atmosphere captured exactly what makes the NBA District unique — a space where basketball culture expands beyond the game itself.

As the lights dimmed over Manarat Al Saadiyat, the message was clear: this wasn’t just a preseason stop. NBA Weekend Abu Dhabi has become a landmark on the global sports calendar — a celebration of how far the game’s reach has come, and how seamlessly it now moves between the worlds of sport, music, and lifestyle.
