Google Fiber : A Different Kind of Internet

If you read a lot of tech news like me you probably have heard about Google Fiber by now. All the tech community have been hustling and bustling about it for the past 2 days non stop. So what is Fiber? 

Fiber is a project that Google has been working on since March of last year.  The project is to build an experimental broadband internet network infrastructure using fiber-optic communication to provide a service to  communities. These fiber internet services are some of the fastest ways to transfer data all over the world. The service will deliver speeds far in excess of traditional web services – offering speeds faster than almost anywhere else on Earth (More than 100 times faster than regular broadband). Launched in Kansas City, Missouri 2 days ago, the world’s largest internet company is planning on taking this project to other cities as soon as they are well set up there. 

Along with its Google Fiber broadband business, the company is also offering a pay TV add-on, Google Fiber TV, that will offer up an alternative to local pay TV packages at a pretty competitive price. There are a lot of cool features — including a 2TB DVR and the ability to record up to eight programs at once. It also is fundamentally changing the way that users interactive with their TVs, by offering up the Nexus 7 as the standard TV remote.

It is basically what every tech savvy human being has been looking for. You might be thinking, this is exactly how I expected the Internet to span out. Well yeah, everyone did. But how long do you think it will take for this project to fully launch and be installed in all major cities around the world? I say a minimum of 4-6 years.
