Zamalek’s Popular Club 33 Destroyed, Owners Distraught

Earlier today, a video surfaced on the Internet of a construction crane completely obliterating Zamalek’s popular hangout spot, Club 33, located on Al Fayed Street.

“All of our licenses are correct and there has been no wrongdoing on our part,” co-owner Shaza Hassan told us. “This was an arbitrary decision issued by the Minister of Water Resources and carried out unjustly for unknown personal interests.”

Voices can also be heard in the video of a woman screaming things like, “1,000 workers will lose their job” and “This was all the doing of the Minstry of Interior” and “7asbeya Allah we na3m el wakeel” and more.

“The place cost more than 40 million EGP and has more than 1,000 workers,” Hassan explained to us, completely distraught.

“We have all the necessary legal paperwork, proof of contract, validity of duration and the period of the agreed rent. We also have proof of payment for all dues and taxes, but the decision was made arbitrarily and, we believe, for personal reasons in order to cause as much damage to the owners and staff,” she claimed.

Whatever the reasons, we are sad to see such an iconic location destroyed and we hope the situation can be soon rectified.
