Snapshots Of Bittersweet Palestinian Moments Between Bombs
The situation in Gaza is unbearable for everyone there, and coverage by the media has repeatedly shown that the Israeli military doesn’t plan to leave anyone out. Although this clearly has created trauma and fear to innocent people in Gaza, yet in many instances, this fear is also mixed with strong faith in God, coupled with power as the rightful owners of the land, Palestinians keep showing us how relentlessly courageous they are. They find hope, entertainment, and relief for each other even amid an ongoing nightmare.
In one of the videos recently shared on social media, a group of children are immersed while watching a film projected on a white sheet in the open air. It is one of the ways the adults try to distract the young ones from the horrid noise of constant air strikes.
In another video, a man is frying falafel in the street. An act that belongs to their daily routines that has now seen an unprecedented deformation. Now the majority of people in Gaza can’t get their hands on oil, heat, and food to cook all at once.
Moreover, attempts to regain, at least for a short while, the normal way of life can sometimes come out as extremely bittersweet, evoking a laugh that the heart aches for at the same time.
However, it is not true that such seemingly “fun” and “nostalgic” moments are meant to reveal to the world that Gaza is doing fine. This won’t be an overstatement, but a complete waterdown of the agony of Palestinian people. Such moments are meant to reveal the faithful Arab identity that drives them to hold their grounds and to the cause.
