Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Bashes the Economist for ‘the Ruining of Egypt’ Article

Three days ago economy and finance news outlet The Economist published an article with the title “The Ruining of Egypt.” It discussed how President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s demographic stress, political repression and economic incompetence are slowly leading to the next uprise.
The article tackled the generous gulf cash funding, or as they called it “injections,” El-Sisi defending the Egyptian pound and ending the article asking the West to offer economic under strict conditions, instead of selling Egypt expensive weapons it neither needs nor can afford.

Just last night, Egypt’s Ministry of External Affairs Facebook page published an article with the title ‘The Ruining of The Economist’ blaming the news outlet for a biased and uninformed analysis, adding that “it is disgraceful to use subjective, insulting and politically motivated terms to characterize the economic policies of Egypt.”
The article continues to defend Egypt’s financial funding, saying, “The Economist ludicrously claims that Egypt’s economy is sustained only through cash injections from the Gulf and military aid from the US. This could not be farther from the truth. It seems that the Economist failed to notice the decline of US aid to Egypt in recent years! Neither are we counting on help from anyone,” it added, ending the article by calling out The Economist for choosing to take sides with those bent on undermining Egypt.
