Shahid’s new medical drama Beng Kolli has only just begun, but with its mix of medical drama, slow-burn suspense, complicated family dynamics, and workplace chaos, there’s already plenty keeping us invested. From the operating room to the family home, the series manages to balance several storylines without losing sight of its characters. Here’s why Beng Kolli has us looking forward to every new episode.
A Look Into the Medical World
The series offers a refreshing and relatively underrepresented look into the chaos that unfolds inside a hospital. When Doaa joins a hospital as an anaesthesiologist, we get an insider look at the world of surgery and operating rooms through her eyes.
With Doaa’s mother working as a cosmetic surgeon and her father being a famous surgeon, the series also explores different sides of the medical profession while showing the pressure that comes with being part of a family of doctors.

A Slow-Burn Suspense
Doaa soon finds herself caught up in a situation she doesn’t know how to handle. Rather than revealing everything at once, the story unfolds slowly, keeping us waiting for the next episode to find out what happens.
Doaa’s mother’s ex-husband undergoes surgery at her workplace, and while under anaesthesia, he reveals a secret about a murder and suggests that Doaa’s mother knows more than she lets on. Naturally, this leaves Doaa with more questions than answers.

Complicated Family Dynamics
Doaa is clearly affected by her parents’ divorce, even though they have maintained a relatively healthy and drama-free relationship since their separation. She still feels uncomfortable when her mother tries to find love again, while her relationship with her father is more complicated.
As Doaa tries to build a name for herself beyond being the daughter of a famous surgeon, she begins keeping secrets from him as she works to find her own path.
Azazi is also affected by his family dynamics, but in his own way. His sister’s rocky marriage, filled with constant arguments, has left him wary of romantic relationships himself.

Subtle Comic Relief
Amid all the drama, Beng Kolli also knows when to lighten the mood. Azazi’s sister’s constant fights with her husband take a comedic turn when the couple clashes over naming their newborn “Bayoumy,” an outdated name the husband is determined to use. This becomes even funnier because they had agreed that each parent would get to name one of their children.
There are also plenty of quick, funny moments throughout the hospital that offer some much-needed comic relief without taking away from the heavier storylines.

Workplace Drama
Doaa joins the hospital without telling anyone that her father is a famous surgeon. As she settles into her new workplace, she finds herself dealing with gossip, workplace politics, alienation, inappropriate flirting, and plenty of tension among her colleagues.
Things eventually take a turn when she is fired after her coworkers gang up on her over a mistake, particularly after discovering who her father really is. Her decision to keep her family background a secret only adds another layer to the workplace drama.

With a storyline that brings together medical drama, family tensions, workplace politics, suspense, and just the right amount of comedy, Beng Kolli already has a lot going for it. And with plenty of unanswered questions still hanging in the air, we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for each new episode.
