What if checking your vitals was as simple as looking into your phone’s camera? That’s the idea behind Welltra AI, an Egyptian-founded health tech company that is making waves with technology that can measure vital signs through facial scanning.
Founded by brothers Anees and Abdullateef, the startup recently appeared on Shark Tank Egypt, where it put its technology to the test and walked away with an investment deal.
How Does Welltra’s Technology Work?
Welltra uses a technology called remote photoplethysmography (rPPG). It works by analyzing tiny changes in skin color captured through a regular camera. These changes are linked to blood flow beneath the skin and can be processed to extract physiological signals.
A scan takes around 40 seconds and can be done using a smartphone, tablet, or another camera-equipped device.
The company aims to make health monitoring more accessible by turning everyday smartphone cameras into tools for tracking important health indicators, without the need for additional medical devices.

Welltra Takes Its Camera-Based Technology to Shark Tank Egypt
During its appearance on Shark Tank Egypt, the two brothers highlighted the high burden of heart disease, pointing out that cardiovascular diseases account for around one in three deaths worldwide.
The founders also discussed what sets Welltra apart from bigger technology companies, highlighting a clinical dataset built from more than 36,000 unique patients and the company’s work with regulatory bodies, including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Sharks even got to experience the technology firsthand, testing it through a live demonstration during the pitch.
Welltra’s Shark Tank Pitch Ends With a Deal
The Egyptian-founded startup secured a deal with Shark Ahmed Tarek Khalil, involving a 5% stake in its US-based parent company and a 50/50 partnership in its Egyptian entity over four years. The deal marks a new milestone for the startup as it looks to expand its presence in the health tech industry.
With an innovative camera-based technology and a recent Shark Tank deal, Welltra AI is looking to make health monitoring more accessible and convenient. The Egyptian-founded startup is now taking another step towards growing its presence in the healthcare technology space, proving that all you need for a health check is a smartphone camera.
