Highlighting UAE’s Booming Space &Tech Sector

Why explore space? A notion that comes to us quite often. Let me tell you that we as humans are driven to explore the unexplored, discover new planets, and push the boundaries of science and technology. In addition to NASA’s fascinating space missions and projects, the Middle East is also motivated to learn more about space. For instance, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) built knowledge transfer programs in 2006 in preparation for a one-goal that focuses on the exploration of Mars, and now it is an unstoppable force in the space sector. Also, the tech industry has been playing an active role inside the business by supporting new space projects and missions.

UAE establishes an $817 million fund for the space sector

UAE’s success in the space sector started with the creation of a 3 billion UAE dirham ($817 million) fund. The fund’s main mission, according to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed, the ruler of Dubai, is to encourage the creation of domestic enterprises in the space sector and advance domestic strategic and research projects.

UAE announces plans for radar satellite constellation

A constellation of sophisticated remote sensing satellites using radar technologies is the fund’s first project which is set to be sent into orbit, offering unmatched imaging capabilities. The constellation will be called Sirb after the Arabic word for a flock of birds. The “Sirb” initiative, according to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, intends to increase the nation’s competitiveness in the space industry. According to Arab News, the planned satellites will be able to produce extremely intricate and detailed radar “pictures” of land usage, ice cover, surface changes, and characterization, with a variety of scientific, civil, and commercial applications.

Turkey & UAE continue to mend ties with the space agreement

Back on July 12, the two countries signed a memorandum to share expertise in space research and technology. They will also carry out joint studies on suborbital flights, rockets, and satellite systems. This is a milestone seeing that

Turkey-UAE relations were strained for years over disagreements on different issues, economic and technological cooperation is playing a large role in Turkish-Emirati reconciliation.

It’s interesting to learn as well that the UAE Mini-Satellite Challenge, one of the key goals of the UAE Space Agency, allows students to construct satellites. The challenge tends to give undergraduate and graduate students the chance to design, build, and test satellites, in collaboration with Khalifa University and Boeing, such an initiative aims to make the UAE a center for space education.

Moreover, the ambitious space programs of the UAE have made it possible for it to create cutting-edge technologies in the region. According to the UAE Space Agency, in 2024, it hopes to become the fourth country on Earth to set down a spacecraft on the moon. A successful trip to the moon would be considered a significant step toward a space economy and away from an oil-dependent economy.

Highlighting UAE’s Booming Space Sector On Space Exploration Day

The Dubai-based metaverse start-up Bedu has presented its brand-new virtual world, which is the first to model the UAE’s intended trip to Mars and focuses on the country’s objectives for space research. In order to provide top-notch aesthetics, the virtual world, known as Metaverse Project 2117, wants to house 100 million users within the next ten years. It does this by utilizing blockchain technology and decentralized hosting strategies.

Amin Alzarouni, the CEO of Bedu, told Arab News that “Mars is a destination linked with the UAE’s vision and strategy.” Bedu’s exclusive focus will be on building a society in which individuals can interact, network, and coexist without distinctions based on race, culture, or religion. The newly launched metaverse plans to build a full world on it that includes residential buildings, hotels, entertainment centers, schools, universities, and healthcare facilities.

Alzarouni explained as well to The National News that the firm’s name “Bedu” is derived from the term “Bedouin.” This is because the company will follow the nomads’ footsteps and discover the next planet as they once discovered new land on Earth.

An interesting fact: the metaverse’s name, 2117, comes from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum’s announcement back in 2017 that the UAE has set a deadline of 2117 for establishing a human colony on Mars.
