More People in the US Diagnosed with Hepatitis A Linked to Strawberries from Egypt
As the toll rises to 89 people with hepatitis A in the States, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state and local officials are investigating the outbreak of the illnesses linked to the frozen strawberries that were imported from Egypt.
Almost all the patients interviewed reported that they had smoothies containing strawberries at Tropical Smoothie Café, a renowned smoothie place in the country. They tracked it down and found that the frozen strawberries served in these places were imported from Egypt. Every branch of that café has stopped using these strawberries.
In a statement published on their website, the FDA announced that it has been in touch with the Egyptian International Health Regulations National Focal Point to discuss the investigation. The statement also mentioned that the FDA is working to identify other parts of the relevant supply chain and will take appropriate action as necessary.
WE SAID THIS: We wish all patients a quick recovery.
