Mark Ruffalo has responded to a group of children in Gaza who created a mural dedicated to him, thanking the Hollywood actor for using his platform to speak out in support of Palestinians.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It’s beautiful, and I am so grateful to you for your message,” Ruffalo wrote in response to the children. “You are beautiful and deserve a wonderful and safe life like all the other children of the world. I love you. You are not alone. Thank you, stay strong and keep an open heart.”
The emotional exchange comes after children from Echo of the Survivors created a mural for the Avengers actor among the ruins of a destroyed home in Gaza. Through their artwork, the children expressed their gratitude to Ruffalo for continuing to use his voice to speak about the suffering of Palestinians and Gaza’s children.
The mural is a striking reflection of how the children have turned to art to express themselves amid the destruction surrounding them. Rather than simply sending a message, they created something of their own, transforming a damaged space into a tribute to someone they feel has stood up for them.
Ruffalo has been one of Hollywood’s more vocal supporters of Palestinian rights and has repeatedly called for an end to the violence in Gaza. He has described Israel’s actions in Gaza as a genocide, famine, and ethnic cleansing, while calling for permanent ceasefires and increased humanitarian aid.
His support has also been visible at major public events. In 2024, Ruffalo wore an “Artists for Ceasefire” pin to the Academy Awards and joined calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
More recently, Ruffalo has found himself at the center of another major public dispute after criticizing Paramount Skydance’s proposed $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. Paramount accused him of invoking “antisemitic tropes” in his criticism, an accusation Ruffalo strongly rejected, saying that criticizing the Israeli government, military technology contracts, or corporate executives is not the same as criticizing Jewish people.
The dispute has added another chapter to Ruffalo’s increasingly outspoken activism, but his latest exchange with Gaza’s children brought the focus back to the people at the heart of his advocacy: children living through the ongoing devastation in Gaza.
