It is estimated that around 844 million individuals across the globe lack access to clean drinking water. That is one in every 10 people on earth, and with global climate change on the rise, it seems that these numbers will only get bigger.

A new initiative by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, aims to bring clean, drinkable water to those in need all over the world. The ‘Well of Hope’ initiative looks to government as well as private sector employees to get together to combat water scarcity.

The project, which will take place throughout the holy month of Ramadan, is to involve workers from twenty businesses and government bodies pumping water through a digital device. An equivalent to the virtual volume pumped will then be donated to those who need clean water the most across the globe by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives.

Organizations from both the private and public sectors can participate in the initiative by contacting @arabhopemakers on Twitter, using the hashtag #Wellofhope.

“There is a sense of goodness in every person and a merciful and generous soul inside each of us,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“The aim is to remind people of the great value of water and demonstrate the difficulties hundreds of millions face to get access to water. Small gestures can make a big difference to ourselves before others.”

WE SAID THIS: Water scarcity is one of the major issues plaguing our world. Thank you, Sheikh Muhammed, for such an amazing initiative!
