Arab Nations Unbeaten After First Round of African Cup Group Stage
The 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) taking place in Egypt is the only thing people are talking about nowadays. Egypt is already making a great job hosting the tournament, as it’s hosting 24 teams for the first time in the history of the tournament. Moreover, the entire world was shocked by the stunning opening ceremony.
Whether one is into football or not, all are following the prestigious competition to cheer for their country. Four Arab countries are competing in this year’s African Cup including hosts Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia.
The whole Arab region is supporting and standing behind these countries, and so far they have made their respective fanbases proud. After completing the first round of the group stage, all Arab nations are so far unbeaten in the tournament.
In the opening match on Friday, Egypt defeated Zimbabwe with a goal in the 41st minute thanks to a sublime effort from Trezeguet. On the 23rd of June, Morocco also won 1-0 against Namibia with an own goal scored by the Namibian Itamanu Keimuine in the last minute of the match.
On the same day, Algeria defeated Kenya with two goals in the first half courtesy of a converted penalty by Baghdad Bounedjah in the 34th minute and a goal from Riyad Mehrez 9 minutes later.
Last but not least, Tunisia was the only one to drop points in their Group E match against Angola with a draw. Tunisia went ahead first with Msakni scoring a penalty in the 34th minute, but Angola’s Djalma Campos denied their win with a goal in the 73rd minute.
