Egypt’s Tourism is bouncing Back
Egypt is the country that links northeast Africa to the rest of the Middle East, It has always been the chosen destination for tourists and travelers since Herodotus’s visit during the ancient times! The discovery of all the
Right before things went south in the country, Egypt’s tourism brought in about USD 13 billion in revenues to the country resulting in approximately 14.7 million tourists visiting in 2010. Fast forward few years later, Moscow finally agreed to resume its flights to Cairo International Airport and other Egyptian cities back in April 2018; including the Red Sea resort towns of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada.
Other countries were also encouraged by the Egyptian government to increase their flights to Egyptian airports, such as Serbia which had about 11 flights to Hurghada in 2018. Additionally, China’s Sichuan Airlines launched for the first time direct flights to Cairo’s Airport back in October 2018. And in light of the fast-growing relationship status between China and Egypt, we will be seeing more Chinese tourists in Egypt. China was actually among the first countries to be visited by President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi after he came into office.
Later, the Ministry of Tourism launched a flight promotion program in November 2018 which urged international cities to open new air routes with Egypt. Regular discussions were held as well with tourist companies and travel agencies in order to find out new methods to attract more tourists from international and other Arab countries.
In late January this year, Egypt opened its new Sphinx International’s Airport which is about 12 km away from the great Pyramids of Giaza. It will be linking both southern and northern directions of the country’s tourists’ destinations as a way to make it easier to explore the country.
Cultural tourism is the main source of income, and Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism is well aware of that, always keeping an eye on the ever-growing archeological discoveries.
About two weeks ago, more than 40 mummies were discovered in ancient tombs in Minya. Such discoveries are meant to introduce and promote new attraction sites in Egypt to the world, with more and more places to check out leaving travelers more intrigued to choose Egypt as their next destination.
And the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in 2020 is going to be the biggest event till date, showcasing the artifacts of the countries ancient civilizations. This occasion is a key plan in the Ministry of Tourism’s promotion strategy.
