9 Arabs With World Records That You’ve Probably Never Heard Of
Some Arabs haven’t had the best of luck when attempting to achieve world records. Achieving the world record for the highest flag didn’t quite work out for Egypt. The world’s longest table didn’t exactly go as planned either and we don’t think “Most Excitement at the Sight of an Open Buffet” counts.
The curse hasn’t befallen all Arabs, however, since some awesome world records have been set by in the region in recent years. Aside from records set by governments, large groups of people, or companies, here are some of the coolest (and weirdest) world records achieved by Arab individuals in recent years, many of which you might not have even heard of.
1. Most cartwheels in one minute
The record for the most cartwheels in one minute was achieved by Gaber Kahlawi (Egypt) on Mar. 29, 2015 when he managed to do 72 cartwheels within 60 seconds.
2. Most flip flops held in one hand in one minute
Saudi Arabian Hamdi M. Al-Nouri broke the world record for most flip flops held in one hand in one minute when he held 22 flip flops for a minute straight at Mall of Arabia-Jeddah.
3. Largest collection of prayer beads
The world’s largest collection of prayer beads belongs to Jamal Sleeq from Kuwait City. The collection included 3,642 prayer beads in March of 2012.
4. Most martial arts kicks in three minutes using one leg (male)
On Aug. 21, 2013, in Riyadh, Ahmad Amin Bodla achieved the world record for the most martial arts kicks in three minutes using one leg. Bodla made an astonishing 783 kicks within the three minutes.
5. Most expensive car registration
On Feb. 16, 2008, Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri of the UAE set the world record for the most expensive car registration when he spent Dh 52.2 million ( approx. USD $14.2 million) for a license plate with the only the number “1” on it.
6. Highest sword throw
The record for the highest sword throw was set by Hazza Sulaiman Al Shehhi of the UAE in November of 2010 when he threw a sword to a height of 21.2 m into the air.
7. Most shoelaces tied in a bow in one minute
The world record for the most shoelaces ties in a bow in one minute was set by Khaled Abdulaziz Alhosani of the UAE on Feb. 21, 2009 when he tied 31 bows in 60 seconds.
8. Fastest time to undress a male mannequin
Jordanian Amira Mohamad broke set the world record for fastest time to undress a male mannequin when she undressed a male mannequin in 13.09 seconds on Mar. 2, 2012.
9. Most t-shirts put on in one minute
Brothers Waleed and Yassine Bellarha from Morocco set the world record for most t-shirts put on in one minute by putting on 31 shirts within 60 seconds back in 2012.
