President Sisi’s Mother Has Passed Away

President Abdel Fatah El Sisi’s mother passed away on Monday, according to an official statement released by the Egyptian presidency.

Soad Mohamed, who was in her 80s, was at Al-Galaa Military Hospital in Heliopolis. The family-only funeral will be held Monday afternoon at Mushir Tantawi Mosque in the Fifth Settlement, where many high-profile services have been held. Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab has cut short an official visit to Luxor in order to attend the funeral in Cairo.

Sisi has spoken very little about his mother in public. Immediately following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi, Sisi said he visited his mother because he was “closely attached” to her. Mohamed was once married to Sisi’s father, Said Hussein Khalil al-Sisi.

WE SAID THIS: May she rest in peace.
