Journey Through Juice Cleansing: Day 4 & 5
Day 4:
Today was definitely a lot better than yesterday. I didn’t have any breakdowns and made it through the day without much trouble. The only problem was that I couldn’t stand the idea of drinking the same recipes again. With Jason Vale’s program, he gives you a number of juices that you keep recreating to help with the cleanse. It gets old after awhile.
While juicing this week, I’ve been researching a lot. I read a lot of articles on the benefits of juicing, and the pros and cons of a prolonged juice fast. The most famous juice cleanse is called the Master Cleanse, which is basically comprised of drinking lemon, water, and cayenne pepper from anywhere between 3-30 days. A lot of people have gone the 30 days. That’s just insane to me.
There are a number of benefits to juice fasting, but because you don’t get all the fibers from the fruits and veggies when you juice, some don’t recommend that you do it for a long time. Others say it’s fine.
So I emailed one of my closest friends, who happens to be a nutritionist. I asked her thoughts on the whole process and what she recommends. She said that juicing is definitely incredible for the body, but that her and her colleagues do not usually recommend a 7-day fast unless you’re going into weight loss surgery and need to shrink their stomach.
Jason Vale has three programs: a 3 day, 5 day, and 7 day detox. I decided to take my friends advice and cut my program short by 2 days. I will end my fast tomorrow, on day 5 and begin to incorporate juicing 2-3 times into my daily routine.
Day 5:
Today is my last day of juicing.
I made the same juice recipes as I have all week, which I’ll be honestly glad not to see for awhile. I’m excited to try new blends and mix it up.
Today has probably been the easiest day for me in the cleanse. My body is used to a liquid diet and I could probably keep going, but I think 5 days is plenty.
It’s been an incredible experience. I’ve lost about 2 kilos in the process, so it’s not a weight loss miracle, but it is an amazing feeling. My sinuses have been clearer, I’ve had clearer skin and I’ve felt lighter than I have in awhile. The cleanse gave me more energy and better focus all around.
Would I do it again? Absolutely! I intend on doing a juice cleanse every few months from now on. But as I’ve suggested to friends and family, I would stick to 3-5 days.
And now, it’s time to eat!
