Free Train Cards Now Available for Cancer Patients in Egypt
Since last June, the Ministry of Transportation planned on offering four free seats in each regular train car for cancer patients. This week, Egypt’s Railway Authority announced that ‘smart cards’ are ready to be used by patients and companions as of the 4th of February.
The ministry stated that the cards are available at stations, could be used at any time, but to be purchased 15 days before traveling. The patients will be given access to air-conditioned seats in second and third class cars. In order to obtain such card, each pateint needs two personal photos, a report from the authorized treatment center and a photocopy of their national ID or birth certificate and of parents.
Most cancer treatment facilities are located in Cairo and this decision will be of enormous help for patients who travel all the way from Upper Egypt.
