Cairo International Film Festival Opens Submissions For the 42nd Edition Taking Place November 2020

The 42nd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival is going to take place from the 19th to the 28th of November! The Festival’s management will be guided by the Egyptian government and the World Health Organisation to ensure the necessary safeguards and protections are in place to ensure guests’ and participants’ safety as a result of the pandemic.

The festival recently dropped two major announcements, the first is that the festival is now accepting submissions for the 42nd edition, and the second is that Ahmed Shawky is officially appointed as the new Artistic Director succeeding the great film critic Youssef Cherif Rizkallah.

The festival will be the first Arabic and second African film festival to apply the Gender Parity Pledge 5050×2020, where the festival will be committed to promoting gender equality and transparency in film-related events.

The coronavirus pandemic has imposed a considerable challenge to the international film industry. Nevertheless, CIFF’s management is committed to holding a successful and safe edition if the situation allows while putting high emphasis on the safety and wellbeing of its staff as well as local and international guests.
