Arab Designers Dominate: Celebrities Flaunt Arab Elegance on the Awards Circuit Red Carpet
We all know how the Awards Circuit graces the first few months of the start of every new year, with everything from the Golden Globes to the Emmys taking over the global events calendar.
Beyond celebrating the exceptional talent of global actors and musicians, the Awards Circuit also places a major spotlight on the best Arab designers across the region.
With the start of 2024, it’s yet another year of Arab design excellence, and that’s why we’ve picked out our favorite Arab-designed looks worn by the biggest global stars:
Golden Globes
Molly Sims & Andra Day in Georges Chakra
Not one but two global stars graced the Golden Globes Red Carpet in Georges Chakra ensembles. The Lebanese designer launched his label back in 1985, and from there, he got into the Hollywood limelight when his designs appeared on The Devil’s Wear Prada.
Grammy Award Winner Andra Day, known for her exceptional vocals and acting prowess, arrived on the red carpet in a black off-the-shoulder ruffled dress with a frilled long tail.
Also making heads turn on the red carpet was actress Molly Sims, known to have starred in Yes Man and Fired Up!, as she flaunted a gorgeous pleated gold ensemble with a large 3D rose on her shoulder.
Critics Choice Awards
Danielle Brooks in Monsoori
Bahraini couture brand led by founder Shaima Al Monsoori is one that has been making waves across the fashion scene with everyone from Queen B to Bebe Rexa and Kelly Rowland donning its designs.
The Critics Choice Awards was no exception, as bubbly, lively, and all-around tenacious actress Danielle Brooks came in hot, donned in a loud, in-your-face baby pink tulle gown by Monsoori.
Emmys
Katherine Heigl in a Reem Acra
Beirut native Reem Acra, lover of all things bridal, shot to fame after kicking off her bridal design career. With both national and international clientele, she made a name for herself as a go-to designer.
Coming in hot for the Emmys, her show-stopping fiery custom-made red gown graced the lovable rom-com actress, Katherine Heigl, making head turns at the red carpet.
Grammys
Karol G in Marmar Halim
Arriving in Dubai and establishing her brand with less than $1,000 in capital, Egyptian designer Marmar Halim rose up the ranks, and today, her designs are worn by everyone from Huda Kattan to Deepika Padukone.
Bringing her design prowess to the Grammy world, her gorgeous simple figure-hugging greige gown was worn by the first-ever female performer to win Best Música Urbana Album, Colombian singer and songwriter Karol G.
BAFTA Awards
Emily Blunt in an Elie Saab
It’s hard not to recognize a name like Elie Saab, the Lebanese designer who, over the years, managed to earn the title of “The king of the red carpet.” This was especially after he became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner, Halle Berry, in 2002.
Bringing his same design excellence to this year’s BAFTA Awards, Saab’s glittering nude-colored dress from his Spring/Summer 2024 couture collection wowed the crowd, as it was seen worn by British actress Emily Blunt on the red carpet.
SAG Awards
Hannah Waddingham in Lebanese label Tony Ward
Known as the “Architect of Detail,” Tony Ward is a prominent Lebanese-Italian fashion designer who constantly draws inspiration from architecture. He grew up in the effervescence of the fashion world and, today, he’s a favorite among celebrities.
At the recent SAG awards, his gorgeous shimmery deep red gown with a thigh-high slit made quite the mark. It was worn by British actress Hannah Waddingham, known for Game of Thrones, and surely dominated the red carpet.
The Awards Circuit is still going strong, with the Oscars coming up soon on March 10, which means that there are even more exquisite Arab-designed ensembles to look forward to.
