The United Arab Emirates has secured the right to host the 2027 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship Division II, Group A, after winning a vote at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Annual Congress in Zurich, Switzerland.
Set to take place in Al Ain in April 2027, the tournament will bring together several national teams competing in Division II Group A, marking the first time an event of its kind is hosted in the region.

The UAE’s successful bid received 14 votes, edging out Croatia, which secured 11 votes. The result highlights the growing confidence international sports bodies have in the country’s ability to deliver major global sporting events, thanks to its world-class infrastructure and proven track record in event organization.
The victory is another milestone in the UAE’s rapidly expanding sports portfolio. Although the country had previously been awarded hosting rights for the 2026 edition, which was later canceled, the latest decision reinforces the IIHF’s trust in the UAE’s capabilities and long-term commitment to developing ice hockey in the region.

With the countdown to 2027 now underway, the UAE is gearing up to make history on the ice. More than just a sporting event, the championship represents another step in the country’s journey to becoming a global hub for international competitions.
