Top European Performances at 2019 Breeders’ Cup

It really was a year to forget for European horses at the Breeders’ Cup, as they could only produce one winner over the two-day meeting. The home team dominated at Santa Anita Park but there were still numerous European horses who posted impressive performances. Here we cover the four leading performances to note from the overseas team.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf

The 2019 meeting saw a large number of surprise results with many big-prized winners. The Juvenile Fillies Turf was no different as Sharing stayed on powerfully to win readily at odds of 16/1. The Roger Varian trained Daahyeh posted an impressive performance running second and staying on very well in the final furlong but being unable to reach the impressive winner. This was a race that punters were looking to get the Unibet bonus code, which offered great bonuses on the race and meeting in general. Another European horse also finished in the frame as Albigna ran fourth, staying on well and never nearer than at the finish. She came from last, so she was left with an impossible task but still ran a huge race. Both are an impressive two years old and will be worth following moving forward, as each of them will be expected to win more races.

Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf

The Filly and Mare Turf saw Joseph O’Brien train Iridessa to become the only winner of a race at the meeting for the European side. Prior to the start, all the talk had been on defending champion Sistercharlie. She was on a six-race unbeaten streak and was the favorite. Despite this, she could only finish third as she failed to peg back the leading pair of Vasilika and Iridessa. It turned into a battle between the leading pair down the home stretch before the Irish horse got up close home by a neck, proving every game in the process.

WE SAID THIS: Iridessa also won the Group 1 Matron Stakes earlier this season and is without a doubt a horse to follow moving forward.
