Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf
The Filly and Mare Turf saw Joseph O’Brien train Iridessa to become the only winner of a race at the meeting for the European side. Prior to the start, all the talk had been on defending champion Sistercharlie. She was on a six-race unbeaten streak and was the favorite. Despite this, she could only finish third as she failed to peg back the leading pair of Vasilika and Iridessa. It turned into a battle between the leading pair down the home stretch before the Irish horse got up close home by a neck, proving every game in the process.
