World’s First Invisible Skyscraper

Seems like cities all over the world are in constant competition to build the tallest, widest, most extravagant buildings, from Chicago to Shanghai and Kuala Lumpur to Dubai.

And now South Korea wants in on this game. Soon enough, a new skyscraper will be a part of the skyline in its capital city of Seoul – and you may not be able to see it.

GDS Architects, the company behind the world’s first invisible skyscraper, was granted a permit to begin construction on the 1,476-foot building, dubbed Tower Infinity. The building will use an LED facade and cameras to project the surroundings behind the building onto its front. When turned on, the system will make the outlines of the tower indiscernible.

Used mainly for entertainment and leisure, the building’s projections will have the ability to broadcast special events or advertisements onto the building. The project will also include a water park, movie theaters and world-class restaurants, along with the third-highest observation deck, going head to head with Dubai’s Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building) and right behind Canton Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center.
