Uber and UNHCR Give Their #Voices4Refugees from Syria on World Refugee Day
June 20th marks World Refugee Day, a gloomy but important commemoration to recognize the need for assisting those who suffer from displacement from their homes due to war, persecution, and unlivable environments. Escaping a safe haven that was once known as home due to the becoming engulfed in violence is not an easy decision to make but a brave one that was necessary for survival and to ensure the safety and security of their loved ones.
This World Refugee Day, Uber and UNHCR teamed up to bring voices around the world to Syrian refugees whose voice need to be desperately heard. The #Voices4Refugees campaign aims to provide comfort, awareness, and positive change to the lives of refugees who have suffered displacement. Uber has turned its cars blue in honor of World Refugee Day and is getting riders home safely to support refugees who cannot go back home.
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has registered over 4.8 million Syrian refugees. The figure includes 2.1 million Syrians registered by UNHCR in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon, 2.7 million Syrians registered by the Government of Turkey, as well as more than 29,000 Syrian refugees registered in North Africa. UNHCR Global Trends report finds 65.3 million people, or one person in 113, were displaced from their homes by conflict and persecution in 2015.
