Jennifer Grout Converts to Islam

According to Morocco World News and the YouTube video below, Arabs Got Talent finalist Jennifer Grout has converted to Islam.

The American singer, who stunned audiences with her performances of Arabic classics on the televised competition, appears in the video with darker hair and two men – one of whom is reportedly her fiance.

One of the men asks her if she knows the shahada, the declaration of faith in Islam. She replies in Arabic, “There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his prophet”.

Grout, who is from Massachusetts in the U.S., became a regional sensation with her participation in Arabs Got Talent, where she made it to the top three.

“We have for so long imitated the West, but this the first time that a person who has no link whatsoever to the Arab world – an American girl who doesn’t speak Arabic – sings Arabic songs,” judge Najwa Karam told Grout after her audition.

The American singer now lives in Fes, where she is studying the Arabic language.
