Egypt’s Parliament Member Shockingly Recommends Female Genital Mutilation
Female genital mutilation is simply something you don’t mention in 2016. What is it about female sexuality that men find so intimidating to the extent that they go all the way to body deformation? There isn’t a single known health benefit for the procedure; on the contrary, studies have reported serious side effects such as the development of cysts, an inability to get pregnant, recurrent infections, difficulty urinating, passing menstrual flow, chronic pain, complications during childbirth and fatal bleeding.
Although the practice has been banned since 2008, a member of the Health Committee in Egypt’s Parliament, Ahmed Tahawy, has apparently recommended female genital mutilation. While discussing the prosecution and punishment of such a crime, Tahawy said that as a doctor he thought leaving women uncircumcised is unhealthy and the criminalization of the procedure is unjust.
Tahawy added that leaving the genital area intact leads to infection and unwanted sexual urges that might lead to bigger problems, claiming we should go back to science instead of blindly following Western beliefs. Dear Mr. Tahawy, in case you haven’t done your homework before publicly shaming women for being sexual beings, please Google female genital mutilation.
WE SAID THIS: There are no words to describe our disgust and disappointment.
