Egypt’s Nour El Sherbini & Ali Farag Nab PSA World Championship Titles

Just this past Friday, squash champion, Nour El Sherbini attained her seventh world championship after defeating Egyptian, Nouran Gohar during the final of the PSA World Squash tournament.

With this latest victory, El Sherbini has become the second most-titled female Squash player, following Malaysian icon Nicol David.

El Sherbini said to the PSA, “I am over the moon to win my seventh World Championship; “It is huge and special for me and I cannot believe I did it, I am so happy. I am happy that I am closer to Nicol’s [David] record. She is a legend and what she did was amazing and unbelievable. I have always been looking up to her, so to put my name beside her is something special and huge for me.”

El Sherbini wasn’t the only victor representing Egypt. For the Men’s team, champion Ali Farag, after beating out Karim Abdel Gawad, officially became the second Egyptian ever after Amr Shabana to win four men’s World Championship trophies.

The squash star said to the PSA, “The emotions are so raw, it is so hard to put it into words. “It is so special. No matter how many times you go through it, it is even more special than the time before. Especially against such a champion like Karim, I am super relieved and super happy”.

The PSA World Championships is the most prestigious tournament in squash, with $1,000,000 in total player compensation split equally between male and female athletes.
