Why Are David Beckham and Diego Maradona in Dubai?
Last weekend, David Beckham (AKA football legend and fine specimen of a human being) flew in for an event at City Walk in Dubai. Naturally, his existence got us curious as to why he is here.
Ever since 2005, Beckham has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNICEF. After wearing our Detective Conan glasses, we have found out that the purpose of his visit was to announce the collaboration between the charity organization and children’s store Level Kids, located at City Walk — obviously. “Raising money is never easy [until] people realize what they’re raising money for and what they’re spending their money on,” he said to The National.
However, this partnership wasn’t the only thing Beckham visited Dubai for. The star has been spotted spending some quality time with Argentinian football God Diego Maradona. In 2011, after his retirement, Maradona settled down in the UAE, where he started managing Al-Fujairah SC. “I learned about calm and spiritual peace from the Emiratis in particular and the Arab people in general,” Maradona said in an interview, according to The National.
According to both of their Instagram accounts, they were delighted about meeting up with each other in Dubai.
