Coldplay to Perform in Expo 2020, Aligning its Environmental Mission With the UAE’s
Just like Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys, Coldplay is playing in Expo 2020! The British rock band will be coming to Dubai, UAE and it will perform at Al Wasl Plaza as part of the Infinity Nights series. That’s not all there is; Coldplay’s goal through this cooperation walks hand in hand with Expo’s theme of Sustainability.
The event will be held on Feb. 15 at 9 p.m under Al Wasl’s magical dome. Just like all Infinity Nights concerts, this one will be live-streamed online on Expo TV and Virtual Expo Dubai. All Expo 2020 ticket holders can attend the concert. Furthermore, Coldplay lovers don’t need to buy concert tickets. Anyone who has an Expo ticket can book their place for free on Feb. 12 to see Coldplay in Expo 2020. Moreover, Expo ticket prices start from $12.99 (AED 45) for a one-day ticket.
The announcement was made via video on Expo 2020 Dubai’s social media accounts. The attractive caption states that Coldplay and Expo 2020 Dubai, “Will bring the world together through the unifying power of music in support of Dubai Expo’s Programme for People and Planet.”
Music of the Spheres’ awareness mission
Coldplay’s latest album “Music of the Spheres” was released in Oct 2021. The album’s world tour has its own initiative to lower carbon emission by 50 percent less than Coldplay’s previous tours. Being an aware and responsible band to the environment, they want to inspire climate awareness. Moreover, the world tour took around two years of planning, working alongside environmental experts.
That aligns with the UAE’s Net-Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative to lower emissions and Expo’s theme of Sustainability. According to Gulf News, Coldplay said, “We would love to return to the UAE as part of our Music of the Spheres world tour. Our dream would be to partner with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment to power our entire show with local renewable energy sources, and to develop other meaningful sustainability initiatives around the concert.”
