This Fatal Heavy Vehicle Crash on the Ring Road Is the Wake up Call We All Need

Rabab ElMeligy is the loving mother of Dania, a girl who was killed on the Egyptian Ring Road in result of a speeding heavy vehicle supplier last week. ElMeligy posted on the 16th of August about the horrific accident, calling on people to spread the word, to put an end to the driving of heavy vehicle suppliers on main roads in the rush hours.

The post reads:

“I lost my child because of a heavy vehicle driver who run me over on the Ring Road along with a truck parked in the middle of the street. 10 cars could have been run over because of these two drivers, but God had forbade it. I’m patient for the loss of my daughter, and shall accept this test, but if you truly care about me we have to take a stand and put an end to it. The traffic law has to be amended and this won’t happen without your help. Tell the story and share the pictures, this topic has to reach wider and wider audiences, so nobody would go through the pain that I’m going through, and no family would lose a member of it to the deadly roads. May God never put you in the situation where I was put, the horror that I have seen in these few minutes of the accidents nor the terror in my daughter’s eyes when she was squeezed in the backseat of the car. God give me patience.”

Ever since the post gone up, activists have created a hashtag campaign on social media in response to ElMeligy’s wish, provoking thousands of activists to spread the word.

ElMeligy took her story to the courts, and the next hearing will be on September 4th.
