As New York Jets Fire Coach Robert Saleh, We Ask How Much A Flag Can Start A Conversation?
by Haydy Abdelhamid
The New York Jets have dismissed head coach Robert Saleh after a disappointing 2-3 start to the 2024 season, including a recent loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London.
While his performance played a key role in the decision, Saleh also faced criticism for wearing a Lebanese flag patch on his hoodie during Sunday’s game. However, this isn’t the first time he’s worn the Lebanese flag patch, as he also wore it during a game against the Giants last season, specifically on October 7th, 2023. So why is it causing such a stir now?
The patch, part of the NFL Heritage Program meant to honor cultural backgrounds, sparked controversy due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. Saleh, of Lebanese descent, had previously worn the flag last season, but this time, while Israel bombs Beirut, it drew heightened attention and mixed reactions.
Do you think that this flag conspiracy is real?
