Art Junkies, Mark Your Calendars For The Fourth Edition Of the Zawya Short Film Festival
If you don’t have plans this weekend, and you’re an art junkie who’s all for artistic movies, then you should add the Zawya Short Film Festival on your calendars! This weekend, the fourth edition of one of the leading short film festivals in the whole region is taking place! It will be taking place from the 31st of January till the 2nd of February, in Cinema Zawya, Downtown Cairo. This year, 14 movies out of all the submissions made it, and here is the entire schedule.
The first and second day will screen four movies, while the third day will screen another four and will end with the awaited awards ceremony. The program starts at 7:00 PM of each day and every movie is followed by a quick Q&A session with its director.
I checked out some of the movies, and the previous work of their directors so I can figure out what days should I attend, and they’re all super promising! I can’t wait to see movies like the interesting docu-fiction “Mona & Raheem” by Hady Bassiony, “On My Way to the Cinema” by Sondos Tarek, and “Jar Full of Fish” by Joseph Adel.
The filmmakers will be competing for the Red Star Films’ Best Film Award, worth EGP 15,000, Misr International Films’ Best Director Award, worth EGP 10,000, Film Clinic Jury Prize, worth EGP 10,000, New Century Productions Audience Award, worth EGP 10,000, and Dahshur Residence Best Script, which grants the winner free participation in any of the Dahshur workshops until June.
