Bahrain Launches First Domestically Built Satellite, ‘Al Munther’

On March 15, 2025, Bahrain achieved a significant milestone by successfully launching its first domestically designed and built satellite, ‘Al Munther,’ aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

According to The Egyptian Gazette, the National Space Science Agency (NSSA) of Bahrain spearheaded the development of ‘Al Munther,’ a 3U CubeSat equipped with advanced technological payloads.

The satellite’s primary mission is to capture high-quality images of Bahrain and its territorial waters, utilizing a medium-resolution space camera with a resolution of 20 meters per pixel.

Notably, ‘Al Munther’ incorporates an artificial intelligence (AI) system capable of real-time image analysis, making it the first nanosatellite in the region to feature such advanced AI capabilities. This innovation enables efficient processing and utilization of the captured imagery. 

In addition to its imaging capabilities, the satellite includes a cybersecurity payload featuring advanced encryption technologies designed to safeguard data from unauthorized access or tampering. This ensures the integrity and security of the information transmitted to ground stations.

Cultural Outreach: Broadcasting Bahrain’s National Anthem

‘Al Munther’ also features a radio broadcast payload that transmits the Bahraini national anthem and a special message from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. These transmissions are accessible to radio enthusiasts worldwide, promoting Bahrain’s cultural heritage and achievements in space technology. 

Deployment and Operational Readiness

The satellite was successfully deployed into its designated orbit at an altitude of 550 kilometers above sea level. It will undergo a series of orbital tests to ensure operational readiness before commencing full-scale operations.
