In this edition of #WaraElMazzika, we have an exclusive one-on-one with Ousso Lotfy, one of the most accomplished musicians in the region. Ousso Lotfy has been the guitarist with some of the biggest musicians in the Arab World like Mohamed Mounir.
He also founded some of the most exciting bands that helped shape the local music scene like HOH, Nagham Masry, and Eftekasat. Not to mention that he’s the founder of SOS Music Festival, Ewsal Bel Arabi, and will soon be launching a 360 Music Platform called Tafatifi.
We got to talk with the legendary guitarist about his latest release ‘Howa Lazem’, and discussed the launch of his new platform Tafatifi. Follow our hashtag #WaraElMazzika for more exclusives from the music scene.
Talk to us about your latest platform Tafatifi.
Tafatifi is a re-branded version of our old platform Ewsal bel3araby in a mobile application format. It is a 360 music platform that provides Music Edutainment and Networking opportunities.
When is it expected to be launched?
On the 25th of September we will launch the beta version application to test the new features and get feedback from our target audience.
What are the core differences between Tafatifi and Ewsal Bel Arabi?
Tafatifi is an upgraded version of Ewsal bel3araby with better organizational structure format and offering new features such as user progress tracking on educational courses as well as new entertaining content and song learning.
Where do you want to take the platform?
We want this platform to become Egypt’s go to hub for anything regarding music.
Since Tafaratifi aims to be a 360 music platform, how can non-musicians use it and for what?
Non musicians can video stream original entertaining music content as well as find an updated calendar for all the live events taking place across Egypt with an online booking feature to be added in the near future.
How do you pick the coaches on the platform and what does each one put on the table?
Our coaches and music instructors are the most, professional and experienced instructors in the Mena region but they also have exceptional communication skills to deliver info simply and to the point.
Talk to us about your latest release, Howa Lazem.
It was the result of having an urge to express myself personally using my own words, voice, and music. It was more about storytelling than singing though. In addition to extreme frustration of not being able to find lyricists we like for HOH, I decided to write and express such frustration. It was then met by resistance from HOH vocalists at the beginning, so I decided to sing it myself. After a positive reaction from the audience, they both got enthusiastic about singing it along.
Should we expect more solo projects to come in the near future?
There have been several previous solo projects and there will be a lot more to come. However, this is my first experience as a vocalist and hopefully not my last.
