VIDEO: Powerful Campaign Shows How Ramadan Is Not the Same in Syria

In Egypt, the streets filled with ‘fawanees’ (Ramadan lanterns), the plethora of Ramadan’s TV series and programs, and the range of desserts, food, and restaurants, push us to exist and reside in our own bubbles. Those bubbles in turn compel us to assume that everyone around the world is blessed enough to enjoy a comfortable Ramadan, much like we are.

Save The Children, however, has thankfully decided to burst all these bubbles and assumptions with a campaign under the title of ‘Ramadan is not the same.’

The video campaign – shown below – reveals how war has left Syria ravaged, and its children dispossessed and displaced. Indeed, when you think of it, children who are approximately below the age of 6, have not experienced a Ramadan without war.

Senior Director of Save The Children’s, Soha Ellaithy stated: “…as we all gear up to celebrate the month with family and friends, we wanted to bring the reality of celebrating Ramadan for a Syrian child closer to our hearts.”

Ellaithy also thanked Facebook, as this campaign was part of a Facebook initiated movement called ‘Hack for Growth’. As a direct result of Facebook’s initiative, UAE’s students and media executives got together and created this idea to spread awareness of the Save The Children organization.

WE SAID THIS: Thank you, Save The Children, for this great initiative.
