Sherine Abdel Wahab’s River Nile Comment Lands Her 6 Months in Prison
Around three months ago, Egyptian Singer, Sherine Abdel Wahab, caused some serious backlash on social media. While performing at a concert in Sharjah in January 2017, the singer was asked by an audience member to sing “Mashrebtesh men Nelha” to which she replied that she will be infected by bilharzia and she’d rather drink Evian water.

Months later, a video of the incident went viral on social media and the singer received quite the attack. The singer ended up getting suspended by the Syndicate of Musical Professions for two months.
This Tuesday, Moqattam Misdemeanor Court sentenced the songstress to six months in prison. Abdel Wahab was fined EGP 10,000 as a civil compensation, with a bail of EGP 5,000 on charges of insulting Egypt.
