The Pager Operation
Israel launched a large-scale operation in September, targeting Hezbollah members by detonating thousands of the group’s communication devices, including pagers and walkie-talkies.
The coordinated explosions resulted in 37 deaths, including children, and left at least 3,000 injured. While Israel maintained that the attack was aimed specifically at Hezbollah, civilian casualties were reported.
Trump’s Response to the Gift
Upon receiving the golden pager, Trump reportedly remarked, “That was a major operation.” In return, Trump gifted Netanyahu a signed photograph of the two leaders, inscribed with, “To Bibi, A Great Leader!” The exchange was later shared on social media by Netanyahu’s son.
Symbolism of the Gift
The golden pager was mounted on a wooden base with a plaque that read: “To President Donald J. Trump, Our greatest friend and greatest ally. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.” It underscores the strong diplomatic ties between Israel and the U.S. during Trump’s presidency.
The exchange of gifts between Netanyahu and Trump highlighted their close political alliance. The golden pager symbolized what Israel considered a pivotal military operation against Hezbollah, while Trump’s signed photograph reaffirmed their strong relationship.
