Marianne Khoury Takes The Reins As El Gouna Film Festival’s Artistic Director
The highly acclaimed event known as El Gouna Film Festival decided to expand its horizons and boost its commitment to supporting Egyptian and Arab filmmakers by appointing acclaimed film producer and director Marianne Khoury as its new Artistic Director. Khoury perfectly fits the role for many reasons. One of the main facets of being an Artistic Director is to support up and coming talent which she already does through her latest initiative known as the Dahshur workshops, dedicated to the mentorship and the development of films created by emerging talent.
Through her new role as Artistic Director, she will get to continue to mentor and support, “with my appointment as Artistic Director, I aim to expand the reach of sponsorship, support, and training workshops to discover and nurture young talents across all facets of filmmaking,” said Khoury.
Beyond that, many key figures from the festival including its Director, Intishal Al Timimi believe that her involvement is instrumental as she already played a big role in the festival itself by being a member of the documentary film jury as well as her contributions to the CineGouna platform.
As an artist and filmmaker, she holds a special place in the industry. Khoury was always known as a filmmaker who dove into the intricacies of human connection, connecting with viewers on a personal level. She creates films of significance, ones that deal with rich themes like identity and marginalization. So far, she produced and co-produced around 30 films and documentaries that won awards in both local and international festivals. Knowing her impressive career as well as her already prominent role in the festival, she is primed to accomplish great things as the festival’s latest Artistic Director.
