Coming Back After A One Year Hiatus Is Egypt’s Highly Anticipated El Gouna Film Festival

El Gouna Film Festival is making an exciting comeback after being placed on hiatus in 2022. Returning for its sixth edition from Oct. to 20, the festival industry arm announced that the CineGouna Platform will run from Oct. 15 to 19.

Launched back in 2017 by Egyptian telecom billionaire Naguib Sawiris alongside brother Samih Sawiris the festival has become one of the most prominent art and film events across the region, having run for five successful editions. Last year, the festival was canceled because of “global challenges” but no specific reason was given for the actual cancellation.

Its artistic director Intishal Al Timimi spoke about the return of the festival and how a one-year break contributed to the new edition, “after five successful editions. We now return, totally re-energized, and inspired to resume our past efforts to encourage the development of the industry in the region”.

As with every year, the new round promises to place a celebratory lens on the rich variety of regional and international films by prominent filmmakers as well as provide key support in nurturing new cinematic projects through the CineGouna Platform. Its yearly host, El Gouna, will reclaim its spot as a prime participator during the crowded end-of-year festival season from October to December.
