Asma Abulyazeid Won Best Actress for Role in a Short Film

An actress who has taken Egypt’s television and big screens by storm is the stunner Asma Abulyazeid. The lady we refer to as the Egyptian Moana has yet again wowed the viewers with her role in ‘Mate’alash aan El-Hageb’ short film.

Written by Haitham Dabbour and directed by Tamer Ashry, the film’s star just received recognition at Elia Short Film Festival and won the best actress award. In additon to two other nominations for Best Film and Best Script categories.

The festival is an annual celebration of regional productions; entirely organized by an independent Palestinian initiative entitled ‘We have a Cinema’ with the local cultural and community organizations in Jerusalem.

The film follows the story of a niqabi girl with an anonymous social media account who spends a day at the mall with a friend. Soon, the young lady comes to the realization that her niqab covers more than just her face.

The film has also been selected to compete at Malmo Arab film festival for best short film.
